Being in the outdoors, communication is key.  Being able to communicate with your buddies is a necessary survival tool when your are out exploring the backcountry.  Plus, having safety gear that works and the proper survival gear is super crucial when exposed to the extreme conditions we may find ourselves in when exploring the backcountry.
